Dell is not officially supporting Windows 10 on most of the older model computers. We tested the Vostro 230 to see if it will handle the upgrade. I upgraded my 4 year old Dell Vostro 220s to Windows 10 several days ago. It was easy and I had no problems until the screen went black while I was simply reading online. I've subsequently gone thru umpteen recommended fixes, most of which involve running the recovery disc or reloading WIN7, to no effect.

I downloaded a new copy of the windows 10.iso recovery disc to both CD and thumb drive but neither will install or have any effect on the machine from what I can see. Windows 7 repair tool download.

Dell Vostro 220s

When I restart the machine the Dell welcome screen appears for a moment, WIN 10 all blue logo then appears briefly, then an F2/F12 choice comes on for an instant followed by 'Beginning Self Repair' message and a permanent black screen for a few hours until I turn it off.

I've tried recommended solutions for entering BIOS, to change boot order, specific to both Dell Vostro and the motherboard manufacturer (American Megatrends) as well as generic suggestions to no avail.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda--If I had it to do over again, I would have waited for the 'upgrade.'
